While promoting democracy during a speech to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, President Barack Obama boasted that if the Constitution didn’t prohibit it, the American people would elect him president for a third term, according to CNN.

"I think if I ran again, I could win. But I can't!" Obama said during an appearance before the 54-member regional bloc. He is the first sitting American president to address the group, which promotes "peace and security throughout Africa," according to the International Business Times.

Obama said that he’d like to be able to continue advancing his agenda, but time is running out.

"There's a lot that I'd like to do to keep America moving, but the law is the law, and no one person is above the law, not even the president," he said, according to U.S. News & World Report.
