Bill Requires Obama, Biden to Enroll in Obamacare

Bill Requires Obama, Biden to Enroll in Obamacare
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich.

A top House Republican has introduced a bill that would require President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden — as a well as all members of Congress and their staffs — to enroll in Obamacare health exchanges.

Introduction of the bill by Michigan Rep. Dave Camp, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, follows a report last week that lawmakers were considering exempting members of Congress and their aides from the Affordable Care Act’s health-insurance exchanges.

“Chairman Camp has long believed every American ought to be exempt from the law, which is why he supports full repeal,” a spokeswoman for Camp said in a statement. “The fact that Democrats are attempting to exempt themselves from the very law they forced on the rest of America proves they know that this law is an abysmal failure.”

Camp’s bill would require that all federal workers — except active-duty military personnel and postal workers — enroll in Obamacare health exchanges.

“If the Obamacare exchanges are good enough for the hardworking Americans and small businesses the law claims to help, then they should be good enough for the president, vice president, Congress, and federal employees,” Camp’s spokeswoman said.

“While the majority of Americans oppose this law, we can all agree that it is only fair that our elected officials follow the same rules as everyone else,” she said.

Other sponsors of the bill include Republican Reps. Kevin Brady of Texas, Sam Johnson of Texas, Devin Nunes of California, Charles Boustany Jr. of Louisiana, and Aaron Schock of Illinois.

“Shouldn’t those who bring this to the American people really be the canaries in the mineshaft?” Louisiana Rep. John Fleming, vice chairman of the GOP Doctors Caucus, asked in an interview with Newsmax. “The more that we force the Congress, the president, and all parts of government to be affected by this law, then that’s good for the American people.”
