Anti-Islamist activist Pamela Geller Thursday slammed a Muslim fencing champion who wants to wear her Islamic headscarf during the 2016 Olympic Games this summer in Rio de Janeiro as a member of the U.S. team.
Geller told Breitbart News that Ibtihaj Muhammad wearing her hijab was the latest act of "imposing Islam on the secular marketplace."
"Whether it's in the workplace, whether it's in the school, it's Islamic supremacism is what it is," she said. "Sharia, Islamic law, asserts its authority over non-Muslims.
"This is the problem and this is something that is never discussed," Geller said.
Muhammad, 30, of Maplewood, N.J.,
won a spot on the U.S. Olympic team Saturday during an event in Athens, Greece, CNN reports. She will be the first American athlete to compete in a hijab.
President Barack Obama also praised Muhammad during his visit Wednesday to a mosque outside Baltimore, according to the report.
Geller also disputed Obama's explanation that the word "Islam" comes from "salam" — meaning "peace."
"It's just not true," Geller told Breitbart.
