Romney Goes Bipartisan With Summer Retreat

By    |   Tuesday, 23 April 2013 02:28 PM EDT

Mitt Romney is planning a top-level political retreat in June, and he released a list on Tuesday that includes a surprising roster of speakers.

According to the Boston Globe, the speaker list includes President Barack Obama’s campaign advisor, David Axelrod, who helped Obama defeat Romney in the 2012 presidential election as well as Romney’s former running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.

“As I indicated in your invitation, I have drawn speakers from government and business to identify key opportunities ahead,” Romney writes. “And I have made sure to invite presenters from both sides of the aisle.”

Other names on the list include the co-chairs of the bipartisan debt-reduction commission, Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Axelrod’s wife, Susan.

Speakers who will offer a business and free market perspective include Meg Whitman, chief executive of Hewlett-Packard; Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems; Arthur Brooks, the president of American Enterprise Institute; and Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christensen.

The retreat is a four-day event titled “Experts and Enthusiasts,” and will take place in Park City, Utah.
