Rasmussen: Wisconsin in Play with Ryan Pick

By    |   Thursday, 16 August 2012 01:16 PM EDT

Mitt Romney's selection of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as running mate has put the Badger State into contention for the election, a new poll suggests.

Romney is leading President Barack Obama by a single percentage point in the state, according to a Rasmussen reports poll conducted among 500 likely voters on Wednesday.

That reverses a similar poll taken three weeks ago, when Obama held a 3 percentage point lead — 49 percent to 46 percent.

Ryan has a positive job approval rating among Wisconsin voters with 39 percent viewing him very favorably and another 18 percent giving him a favorable rating

"Favorables for Ryan in Wisconsin are similar to those measured on the national level, but voters in his home state are more likely to believe he was the right choice for the Romney ticket," said the polling company president, Scott Rasmussen.

But he said the race in the state remains a toss-up.

Other points from the Wisconsin poll:

* 82 percent say Ryan is politically conservative, with most saying he is 'very conservative;'

* Slightly more believe Ryan is ready to be president than those who believe he is not;

* 51 percent says Romney made the right choice with his selection of a vice-presidential candidate. However 30 percent say he made the wrong choice.
