Months before Secret Service agents were caught cavorting with prostitutes in Colombia, agents detailed to protect President Barack Obama and his family were partying heavily and trashing rental houses during the first family’s Martha’s Vineyard vacation,
FoxNews.com reported Tuesday.
Local residents on the Massachusetts island, a popular summer getaway for members of the Northeastern elite, complained that the Secret Service agents were getting involved in barroom brawls and throwing wild late-night parties.
“I expect parties during the summer. People come here to have fun — they’re on vacation,” one resident told Fox. “But I didn’t think it’d be Secret Service people here protecting the president.”
When the Obamas vacationed on the island last August, police were called to a rental house where a raucous party was still going strong in the early morning hours.
“I was informed by two males that it’s a rental house and they were working the presidential vacation,” a police report obtained by FoxNews.com said. “I informed them that it was still 2:30 a.m. and people in the area are complaining about the loud voices, and [they] were told to go inside and close the windows.”
A Secret Service spokesman told Fox that the agency had not received any complaints about agents’ behavior on Martha’s Vineyard in the summer of 2011. But a local resident told FoxNews.com she and her husband had complained.
“If Secret Service says they’ve never received complaints about these same guys, then there is clear evidence to the contrary — if they say that, they’re lying,” the woman told Fox. "We were the only ones to care, apparently. Nobody else cared about them partying, trashing the house, bringing girls home.”
The Secret Service became enmeshed in scandal in April when a dozen agents assigned to prepare for the president’s visit to Colombia were caught with local escorts in their hotel rooms. A furur erupted when a prostitute claimed an agent was trying to skip out on her bill.
