Texas Files Suit in U.S. Court to Block Syrian Refugees from Settling State

Wednesday, 02 December 2015 05:51 PM EST

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission filed a lawsuit in a federal court in Texas on Wednesday seeking to block the resettlement of Syrian refugees into the state.

The suit, which names U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, the U.S. State Department and others as defendants, said the state is seeking an injunction to halt the resettlement because Texas contends the defendants are violating their "statutory duty to consult with the State in advance of placing refugees in Texas."
