Ben Carson: Obama Puts Political Correctness Above Defending Nation

By    |   Tuesday, 03 February 2015 12:54 PM EST

If Dr. Ben Carson was president he says he'd pull no punches with Iran.

"When you have somebody like (former Iranian President Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad who said, 'we want to obliterate Israel,' of course we should be concerned about it," he said Tuesday on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum."

"As they're developing weapons of longer range, we should be concerned about it and we should make it very clear to them that if any nuclear weapons are launched from Iran, Iran will be nonexistent. That should be very clear to them."

"If they launch a nuclear missile, we will retaliate. Absolutely. No ifs, ands, and buts about it," said Carson, author of "One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America's Future."

One of the key problems with President Barack Obama is that he's more concerned with being politically correct than he is with protecting the nation, according to Carson, a tea party star who is considering a run for the White House in 2016.

"If I'm not mistaken, not too many weeks ago he said that ISIS is not Islamic," Carson said. "I wonder what that first 'I' stands for? He is the epitome of political correctness and I have argued for a long time that political correctness is destroying our nation, because it is interfering with our ability to think logically and to have the adequate discussion so that we can make progress.

"I hope and pray that maybe at some point the president will actually realize that and stop playing these games and deal with the issues, because this is a serious problem and they have a sworn desire to eliminate us and our way of life," he said.

"Now, you can make two decisions there. You can say, let's wait for them to do that or let's take definitive action to make sure that doesn't happen."

As commander-in-chief, Carson said he would make it clear to Tehran that "we are going after them and we are going to eliminate them and we would use every resource available to us. both covert and overt," including boots on the ground and nuclear weapons if needed.

"Everything is on the table," he said. "Obviously we're not going to be anxious to use nuclear weapons if we don't have to use nuclear weapons, but you must recognize that our duty is to protect the people of the United States of America and to be loyal to our allies. They are our allies for a reason.

"We need to also understand that if we want to form a coalition, we must lead," Carson said. "They're not going to form and then say, 'OK, come on and lead us.' It doesn't work that way.

"We have to open our eyes, look at the way things have always worked, use that data to help us formulate the right kind of plan, not wishful thinking. Wishful thinking doesn't work in war."

Carson has still not made an announcement about his plans, but said that the decision by the GOP's 2012 nominee, Mitt Romney, to stay out of the race has no bearing on his decision.

"It doesn't affect me one way or the other," he said. "I want to have a lot of people in the field, I want to hear lots of opinions because it's critical that the Republicans and conservatives have the right person running and we need to hear what everybody has to say about that.

"I may not be the right person, but that's why we have this process."
