Rep. Blackburn: GOP Will Keep the Senate

By    |   Monday, 24 October 2016 07:02 PM EDT

Republicans will keep hold of the Senate after the Nov. 8 election, Rep. Marsha Blackburn told Newsmax TV.

The seven-term Tennessee Republican is not worried about the Democrats taking control of the chamber, she told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Monday.

"In my opinion, from what I've seen being out there, and I've been in New Hampshire, I think we hold the Senate," she told host Steve Malzberg. "I've been in Nevada and the ground game is good. The ground game is very strong and you have so much — even though a lot of the information and the information flow is very, as we would say, high tech, the campaigns are very high touch. They are knocking on doors, they are into neighborhoods, they are into communities, they are really hammering this vote out.

"And not only going to Republican houses, but going to independent, Democrat houses. One of the things we're seeing is a lot of yards that are Democrat registered voters have a Trump sign. And that is encouraging."

Blackburn, the chairman of the Congressional Select Committee on Infant Lives and the vice chair of the Congressional Committee on Energy & Commerce, also addressed Vice President Joe Biden's comments last week in which he insinuated wanting to get into a fist fight with Trump, the Republican presidential candidate.

"Double standard: It does exist and we are seeing it play out in this campaign," Blackburn said. "If you had Dick Cheney, when he was vice president, saying something like that, the media would have been calling for him to retract the remarks, to issue apologies.

"With Joe Biden they just say, 'oh, Uncle Joe, there he goes again.' And they excuse it and even laugh with him about the remark. It's such a double standard."

Blackburn's remarks echoed those of the Trump campaign, which has accused the media time and again of being on Democrat Hillary Clinton's side and trying to help her elected.
