Innis: Obama, Holder Promoted False Ferguson Narrative

By    |   Friday, 06 March 2015 12:37 PM EST

Attorney General Eric Holder and President Barack Obama helped promote the false narrative that Ferguson, Missouri, teen Michael Brown raised his hands in surrender before being fatally shot by Officer Darren Wilson, according to TeaParty.net Executive Director Niger Innis.

Innis appeared alongside former FBI Assistant Director Ron Hosko on "America’s Forum" on Newsmax TV Friday to discuss Brown’s controversial shooting and the Justice Department’ s investigation of the Ferguson Police Department.

Not only has Holder pushed the "Hands Up, Don’t Shoot" narrative, but he compared Brown’s death to that of Emmett Till, the 14-year-old black child murdered in Mississippi in 1956 for whistling at a white girl, according to Innis.

"President [Barack] Obama went before the United Nations and compared Ferguson to ISIS and to Russia invading Ukraine," he said.

Holder held a press conference this week to address the DOJ’s final report clearing Wilson of civil rights violations and indirectly admitting that the "Hands Up, Don’t Shoot" scenario was false.

"The first three minutes of his press conference dismissed the Darren Wilson situation, and then he spent the next 20 minutes talking about policing in Ferguson," said Hosko. "It was disingenuous.

"This has been a false narrative for seven months and the attorney general of the United States failed in his responsibility to step up when he knew these allegations were untrue against Officer Wilson. He should've stepped up and said the 'hands up, don't shoot' narrative is a lie.

Innis went further to say that Obama and Holder have betrayed their offices and "even more than that, it's the betrayal of the civil rights legacy of black Americans."

The Justice Department did conclude that the Ferguson Police Department has engaged in a pattern of racial abuse against African-Americans, findings that Hosko characterized as "very troubling" and deserving of attention.

Innis suggested that the problem in Ferguson is illustrative of the "fundamental" challenge with police across the country: law enforcement turned into de facto tax collectors.

"They made the community, which is 67 percent black, victims of nuisance fines and before you know it, a little Mickey Mouse infraction puts you in the criminal justice system," said Innis. "When you create this tension and you make police tax collectors, you create this artificial tension that leads to what happens."
