Ingraham: If Flake Departure Bothers GOP, It Should Pass Bills People Like

(Newsmax TV's "The Howie Carr Show")

Conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham has little sympathy for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and other mainstream Republicans who are lamenting the loss of Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.

Appearing Tuesday on Newsmax TV's "The Howie Carr Show," Ingraham said if Flake's announcement he will not seek reelection gives Republicans fear they will lose the seat to a Democrat, it is their own fault.

"Maybe they should've thought of that before they advocated for open borders and the Trans-Pacific Partnership," she said. "Maybe they should start thinking about passing legislation and pushing policies that are actually popular with the people and then they won't run into this trouble."

Ingraham told Carr she has no doubt Flake would have lost anyway had he stood for reelection.

"He was already down double digits," she said, adding she attended a rally last week for Kelli Ward, who intended to challenge Flake in the GOP primary.

"It was packed out, maxed out," Ingraham said. "There was so much excitement."

Ward will face a challenge in the general election and will have to "up her game," Ingraham said, but added it is not written anywhere that incumbents can stay as long as they want.

"It's like the people want change; they want something different," she said. "Mitch McConnell can moan all the wants, but look in the mirror, Mitch. Look in the mirror. What did you do for the people of the last how many years?"
