The discovery of the
longest cross-border tunnel ever found by law enforcement along the California and Mexico border should raise red flags about terrorists being able to sneak into the United States, Col. Derek Harvey tells
Newsmax TV.
In an interview Thursday with "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth, the former intelligence officer and former adviser to Gen. David Petreaus said "clearly there are" national security implications in the massive tunnel — and in new relationships between terrorists and drug cartels.

"What I'm concerned about is the transactional relationships that are developing between terrorist groups and these narco groups in Mexico and Colombia and Latin America in general," he said.
And border security is suffering because of lack of resources and leadership, he charged.
"We need a robust effort along our border and we need to be very concerned about making sure that it's financed, resourced, and executed effectively down there," he said. "Unfortunately, all three of those are not happening today. Border security is not resourced, it's not executed very well, and it's not lead very well."
As for President Barack Obama's travel to Saudi Arabia this week, Harvey blasts the administration's unrealistic expectations for a partnership with Gulf allies to fight against ISIS.
"There's a common struggle against ISIS on one level, but we don't have common goals for the region," he said, adding "relationships in particular" with our Gulf States allies "are very tense and complicated."
"So we don't have unity of purpose, we don't have a common goal, and without those two things, we're going to have a difficult time bringing everyone together," he said.
