Former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan tells
Newsmax TV that she was lucky to receive a call one day from the White House offering her a job.
"I started out as a journalist at CBS News. When Ronald Reagan came along I just knew he was my president," she told "Newsmax Prime" guest host Ric Blackwell. "He was the president who most moved me and who I most agreed with. … So leaving CBS behind was just fine."
Noonan chronicles her years in the Reagan White House and a career in journalism and politics in her new book,
"The Time of Our Lives."

"They're not just memories," Noonan told Blacwell. "They are a bunch of essays and columns and op-ed pieces and commentaries that I've done over the past more than 25 years but the most recent of them is just a few months old."
When asked what inspired her to write her latest novel, Noonan said that she "wanted to go back and see what I found and what I still loved and put it into a book."
Noonan added "I just sort of divided my work up into themes about America, about what's happening now, about the greatness game of politics, about people I miss."
Noonan served not only as a primary speechwriter for Reagan, but also as an adviser. She became a columnist after leaving the White House, and currently writes for The Wall Street Journal.
"I still give advice to those running for president, but I do it in a very public column where anybody can see it," she said. "I don't give them private advice. … I just try to throw the ball straight and hard."
