Pete Hoekstra: 'We Need a Street Fighter' Like Trump

By    |   Thursday, 18 August 2016 08:05 PM EDT

Pete Hoekstra, the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told NewsmaxTV's "The Hard Line" with Ed Berliner, the Republican party needs a "street fighter" to take on the "most corrupt, the most experienced political team" and avoid big-dollar donor influencers.

"We need a street fighter and Republicans haven't had one in a long time," Hoekstra said. "We're seeing one in Donald Trump.

"Republicans are sick and tired of getting beat because we play nice, and the other team plays dirty and they play hardball. It's time for us to take it to them. . . . They're looking for people with spine. Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, Kellyanne [Conway], they have the kind of spine – people that Republicans are looking for. . . . people who just love America and don't want to go the way of George Soros."

Bannon was hired as Trump's campaign CEO and Conway as the campaign manager Wednesday, while The Washington Free Beacon reported Thursday a liberal group and partner of the White House solicited billionaire Soros for $750,000 to help fund positive spin for the Obama administration's nuclear deal with Iran.

"We're fighting the most corrupt, the most experienced political team out there – the Clinton team . . . go after the Clinton machine and go after Hillary, the Clinton Foundation, this ransom payment. It doesn't stop."

The ransom payment referenced refers to the State Department's admission Thursday that the $400 million paid to Iran was contingent on release of American prisoners.
