President-elect Donald Trump should stop the Obama administration's efforts to strike a deal to build fighter jets in India, former Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"If you are truly worried about the security of the United States," the 2008 Republican presidential candidate, told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth.

If the deal goes through, India would make F-16 Fighting Falcons and F/A-18 Super Hornets to replace an aging fleet of Russian-made fighters.

Both Lockheed Martin and Boeing have submitted bids the Indian government. Lockheed said that it would move its production efforts on the jets from Texas to India, costing at least 300 jobs.

The jets are used by the Navy, Air Force and Marines.

"The president of the United States today doesn't have the same level of concern about the security of this nation that Donald Trump and most Americans have," Tancredo said.

"I hate to say it, but I believe it — and this is an example of it."
