The mainstream media portray conservatives as violence-prone wackos every time there is a mass shooting in the United States, says Noah Rothman, editor of the media watchdog blog Mediaite.com.
"Conservatives are unfairly – it would be cosmic injustice if this was the case for liberals – assumed to be, their ideology to be the impetus, the primogenitor for violent outbursts," Rothman told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"Conservatives are in a defensive crouch every time this happens, for fear that somebody, somewhere who decided to shoot up a shopping mall signed a fair-tax petition at some point in his life," he said Tuesday.

Rothman says he's alarmed by the Denver Post's decision to remove the word "socialist" from a classmate's description of Karl Pierson, who police say shot two other students and then killed himself at Arapahoe High School in Colorado.
Senior News Editor Lee Ann Colacioppo explained: "We decided not to have another student apply a label to the shooter -- a label the student likely didn't even understand."
But Rothman says that decision shows a "problematic mindset."
"She's making judgments about the mindset of this particular individual, his cognitive ability, and his ability to understand the complexity of socialism," he said.
"This particular editor just thought that it was inappropriate because her audience shouldn't be allowed to consume that information without more context. They couldn't add that context, so they just got rid of it."
