Pro-Gingrich super PAC to get $10 Million Boost from Adelson

Newt Gingrich’s struggling campaign is about to get a big boost from a billionaire casino mogul.

Sheldon Adelson plans to give $10 million to Winning Our Future, a super PAC supporting Gingrich, CBS News and CNN reported Friday. The new gift is on top of $11 million Adelson and his family have already given the group.

The cash infusion will allow the super PAC to be more competitive in the advertising arena before the March 6 Super Tuesday contests, which Gingrich hopes will revive his sagging campaign.

While Adelson is a Gingrich supporter, CNN quoted sources as saying the deep-pocketed donor wants to ensure that Rick Santorum does not capture the Republican nomination.

"Adelson is certainly giving Gingrich one more chance. But given Gingrich's poll numbers, Adelson's cash infusion is more about knocking Santorum from the top of the polls than it is about boosting Gingrich's chances" Republican strategist Ford O'Connell told CNN. "While Adelson supports Gingrich, he is concerned that Santorum could win the nomination over [Mitt] Romney."
