Ben Carson: I Can Get Vote of the 47 Percent Romney Spoke Of

By    |   Thursday, 04 June 2015 09:21 PM EDT

GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson said he has the ability to capture the votes of the "47 percent" of Americans that 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney was caught on video talking about.

Romney said he had no chance of winning the 47 percent who believe they are victims and rely on government assistance, so there was no point trying.

Carson, appearing Thursday on Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor," said, "I know a lot of people in that so-called 47 percent. They believe the same way I do."

Carson said he sees the people Romney was referring to "all the time," and added, "It's incumbent on the Republicans and conservatives and logical people to explain what their choices lead to."

Carson, who currently is polling third in the crowded GOP field, said he likely won't change his campaign method ahead of the Aug. 6 Fox News Channel debate and has faith he will make the cut of top 10 candidates who will be invited. But he said he would rather Fox do two debates so all the candidate would have a chance to participate.

Carson said he isn't worried there are too many people seeking the GOP nomination.

"I have a lot of faith in the American people and think they will be able to cut through all the crap," he said.
