Hillary Clinton may still be the Democratic presidential front-runner, but conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer said a "cringeworthy" joke about her email scandal shows "how bad a candidate she is."
"That attempted self-deprecation about Snapchat was cringeworthy," Krauthammer said Monday on Fox News Channel's
"Special Report" "It doesn’t work. If she had the charm of her husband it might work, but she doesn’t."
Clinton, during an appearance in Iowa over the weekend, joked that she loves her new Snapchap account because "those messages disappear all by themselves."
In case there was any doubt about the reference, the former Secretary of State immediately turned serious to say that the questions about her private server were the result of partisan attacks. At least two of those emails have been identified as containing "Top Secret" information and dozens more the State Department has identified as potentially containing "Classified" information.
The Clintons are obsessed with control, Krauthammer said, and now that the situation is out of their control "we don't know what will happen."
The case won't be decided politically, but by the technical skill of the FBI at finding any scrubbed data, Krauthammer said.
If prosecutors go easy on Clinton, "they keep a double standard," he said. But if "they allow it to drag on that she can get away with it. I would suspect that she would be least in jeopardy of being indicted, but surely exposed as having said a lot of things that aren’t true."
