Steve Forbes Endorses Chris Cox in NY Congressional Primary

Friday, 10 September 2010 07:17 PM EDT

Financial expert, publisher, and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes today announced his endorsement for Chris Cox in New York's 1st Congressional District, citing the need for strong voices in Washington willing to fight for fiscal sanity and sound tax policies that will unleash the private sector to create jobs and help restore America's economic growth and vitality.

"It's all about the economy. And Chris Cox gets it," Forbes declared.

Chris Cox, Steve Forbes, endorse, New YorkA steadfast pro-life fiscal conservative, Cox believes in limiting government spending and putting more money back in the hands of American families and businesses. The district covers much of eastern Long Island.

"I know that Chris Cox will use his education and experience as a small businessman to not only join the economic debate in Washington, but to be a leader to create jobs and economic growth," Forbes said. "Chris understands how to blend common sense — cutting spending, balancing budgets, ending wasteful earmarks — with the need for innovative reforms, such as the flat tax, which will bring immediate help to businesses and workers alike. The same dysfunctional tax and spend policies at the root of our economic woes are the prevailing problem in both Albany and Washington. There's no question that Chris Cox has the best interest of taxpayers at heart and will be an outstanding congressman."

Forbes, a champion of the flat tax, said Cox's election will ensure that Suffolk
County taxpayers are represented by an informed, passionate voice of reason.

"Voters in New York and across the nation are calling out for help,” said Forbes, chairman and chief executive officer of Forbes Media and editor-in-chief of  Forbes magazine.

Voters are "tired of the failed policies stemming from one-party Democrat rule and they're looking for change. On both the economy and as an advocate for maintaining America's homeland security and military readiness, Chris Cox will be a strong voice from a new generation of leadership.”

Cox said he is honored to receive the endorsement and pleased to stand alongside Steve Forbes in calling for the flat tax and restoring America's economic vitality.

"The unnecessary complexity of our tax code underscores the need to drastically simplify and reform that system with the flat tax," Cox said. "Americans could file your return on a single sheet of paper, or even a postcard. Currently, taxpayers spend over 7 billion hours a year complying with tax-filing requirements, the equivalent of 3.8 million full-time jobs. Such a tax reform, allowing families and businesses to plan their future expenses with a sense of certainty, would bring untold benefits and savings."

"Our economic priorities are clear: We need jobs, and we Washington to recognize that it's the private sector, not the government, that is our economic engine," said Cox. "I am proud to stand with Steve Forbes in the fight to reform our tax system, end the waste and unfairness, and allow American ingenuity to flourish once again in the small business sector. I look forward to helping him promote economic policies that will get America working again — on every level. I will be Long Island ambassador in Congress. Having an influential voice such as Steve Forbes on my side will make my job that much easier."
