Donald Trump: Dems Talking GOP Into Not Impeaching Obama

By    |   Monday, 24 November 2014 12:25 PM EST

Democrats may be trying to use reverse psychology when they continue to decry that Republicans want to impeach President Barack Obama for exceeding his executive authority, says real estate and entertainment billionaire Donald Trump.

Trump told "Fox & Friends" that he had been "watching the Democrats play poker for the last four years" and "listening to them say, 'Oh, he'd love to be impeached. He'd love to be impeached. He'd love to see the government shut down.'"

"What a lot of crap, because all [of] what they're doing — they're actually talking the Republicans into not doing it," Trump said Monday. "Do you think Obama seriously wants to be impeached and go through what [former President] Bill Clinton did?"

Trump said impeachment would be a "mess" and a "horror show" for Obama.
"It would be an absolute embarrassment. It would go down on his record permanently," he said.

Conversely, Trump was not satisfied with Republicans who responded that they would never impeach the president or shut down the government, because they contended Obama would "like that." He pointed out that after last year's government shutdown, the GOP then experienced significant gains in the 2014 midterm elections.

"Look, [Republicans] supposedly did a weak effort to shut down the government, and the Republicans just had one of the greatest triumphs," he said.

Trump said Obama "certainly did something that was unconstitutional" with his executive order granting temporary protections to millions of illegal immigrants, an action that "should be overwritten easily by the Supreme Court."

"We're looking now at a situation that should absolutely not pass muster, in terms of constitutionality. But, depends on what these justices do," he said.

Trump said Obama "could be impeached, and, certainly, [Republicans] could shut down the government," but predicted that it "wouldn't be shut down for long."

"What he did was unbelievable, what he was able to do," Trump said. "At the same time, people are pouring into the country. There's no stopping them."
