Gingrich: No Way Obama's Immigration Plan Will Pass

By    |   Sunday, 17 February 2013 12:23 PM EST

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich predicted Sunday that an immigration plan proposed by President Barack Obama never will pass through the chamber..

“An Obama immigration plan is not going to pass the House . . . just as a Bush Social Security plan after ’04 was dead because it was the Bush Social Security plan,” Gingrich said on ABC’s “This Week.” “An Obama plan, led and driven by Obama in this atmosphere, with the level of hostility towards the president and the way he goads the hostility, I think it’s very hard to imagine that his bill’s going to pass the House.”

Regarding the impending sequestration, Gingrich said the fact remains the government is “bloated” and the Pentagon needs a thorough overhaul.

“This is a government so bloated, so wasteful and so incompetent that, actually, this is the equivalent of a recession,” he said.

He described as “Washington nonsense” the confirmation hearings of Secretary of Defense nominee Chuck Hagel, particularly the recent exchange between Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and John McCain of Arizona.

“No matter how stupid Chuck Hagel is, no matter how bad his performance, no matter how much he keeps in secret, we all know he’s an honorable man,” Gingrich said. “How do we know that?”
