Giuliani: Nepotism Charges Don't Apply to Jared Kushner

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani defended president-elect Donald Trump's choice to pick his son-in-law, owner of Kushner Companies and Observer Media, for a major role in his administration.

Fox News' "Fox & Friends" host Steve Doocy asked Giuliani if suggestions of nepotism apply to Trump's son-in-law, who he named as a senior White House adviser on Tuesday.

"It doesn't apply," Giuliani told "Fox & Friends."

"I worked with Jared very, very closely. One of the brightest, one of the smartest, one of the most balanced people I know. He will be a great asset to President Trump which means he is a great asset to the country," Giuliani said.

"I saw him help negotiate the meeting with the president of the Mexico, which people thought never could be done. I was part of that with him. He has terrific negotiating skills. And has been enormously successful at a young age."

Co-host Brian Kilmeade later mentioned Robert F. Kennedy, who served as U.S. attorney general for his brother, President John F. Kennedy, and who Giuliani thinks "turned out from everybody's point of view, including mine, a very good attorney general."

"I think the president should be entitled to the best possible people he can get," Giuliani continued. "He is doing everything he can to divest himself of private interests. That law does not apply to the White House for the reason that the president has to get the people he can rely on."
