Dem Rep. Jerrold Nadler: Trump Is a 'Serial Liar'

President Donald Trump has a reputation of being a "serial liar," and should not be allowed to accuse former President Barack Obama of wiretapping the Trump Tower without proof, Rep. Jerrold Nadler said Monday.

"This is an administration that lies all the time," the New York Democrat told CNN's "New Day" program. "When you come out with an extraordinary accusation against the former president or anybody else, you have to have some evidence."

Nadler dismissed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's claims that Congress must now investigate the claims.

"Nonsense," Nadler said. "The president, who made an extraordinary claim, a vicious claim, against his predecessor, has to come up with some evidence to show that there's some truth to it. Then others can investigate.

"You can't just come out and make a terrible accusation on the basis of no evidence at all, especially when you have a reputation as a serial liar, as this president does," Nadler added, and admitted that Trump has succeeded in getting an investigation into the alleged wiretaps, despite having no evidence.

"He's proven that you can, but you oughtn't be able to… especially when you're shown you're a liar on whether it was raining during the inaugural speech to everything else."

Nadler has criticized Trump before. In February, he introduced a resolution for the Department of Justice to provide information on Trump's conflicts of interest, ethical violations, and Russian ties.
