Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., called for House Speaker Paul Ryan to take a new "direction" or step down, CNN reported.
"We need either a change in direction from this speaker, or we need a new speaker," Amash said during a town hall meeting in Cedar Springs, Mich., when answering questions about the gridlock in Congress.
Amash is not the only lawmaker or conservative pundit who has criticized Ryan, but only Fox News host Jeanine Pirro publicly called for his ouster following the failure of the GOP healthcare bill to get a floor vote. Ryan took the lead on the healthcare legislation but could not muster enough support from Republicans to push it forward.
Amash also ripped into Trump, which he has not shied away from doing since Trump became president, and questioned his choice to fire missiles at a Syrian airbase last week following a chemicals weapon attack in Syria many believe was orchestrated by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
"I'm listening to every person's input when it comes to war: You didn't have a say about it, and that's wrong," Amash said, referring to Trump not reaching out to Congress ahead of the strikes.
"If the president intends to escalate the conflict, then he does need to come back to Congress request approval and live with the results," Amash later added, per MLive.com.
