Mike Huckabee is looking into a possible run for governor of Florida, two leading Sunshine State Republicans tell
Florida Politics.
The sources, a top GOP lobbyist and and a member of the Florida legislature, said Huckabee is "eyeing a run for the governor's mansion in 2018."
As well, Matt Gaetz, a Florida state senator Huckabee has endorsed for Congress, believes the former Arkansas governor and two-time GOP presidential candidate would be a natural.
"Mike Huckabee is beloved in Northwest Florida. He could count on a lot of support from this area if [he] were to seek public office again. He is the conscience of the Republican Party," Gaetz said.
Huckabee, who lives in Florida, is politically active there with his political committee having given $12,000 to various campaigns, Florida Politics reports.
