Obama Plans Calif. Fundraising Appearances with Pelosi

By    |   Saturday, 16 March 2013 10:40 PM EDT

President Barack Obama plans to visit California on April 3 and 4 to raise funds for congressional Democratic candidates, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Obama promised Congressional Republicans this past week he was focusing on legislating — not elections.

The Times reports the president repeatedly told GOP lawmakers he had run his last race and wanted to spend time working with them on his immigration, gun control and economic plans.

The president plans 14 fundraisers this year, 10 outside Washington. Democrats need to gain 17 seats in the House to regain control of both chambers of Congress and the White House.

His California trip will be made up of two San Francisco-area events on April 3, one a $5,000-per-person cocktail reception at the home a former hedge fund manager, the other a $32,500-per-person dinner hosted by philanthropists Ann and Gordon Getty, according to an invitation obtained by the Times.

Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi, who represents San Francisco, is also scheduled to appear at both those fundraisers. Obama will raise funds in the area the next day for the Democratic National Committee.
