Quinnipiac Poll: Most Voters Say Obamacare Should Be Fixed, Not Repealed

Most voters in the U.S. say the Affordable Care Act should be repaired, not replaced, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Friday.

The results:

• Repeal all of Obamacare: 16 percent.
• Repeal parts: 51 percent.
• Don't repeal any of it: 30 percent.

Almost all of those who took the poll — 96 percent — believe it is "very important" or "somewhat important" for affordable health insurance to be available to all Americans.

As to whether those who took the poll are satisfied with the quality or cost they are now receiving, most responded favorably:

• Very or somewhat satisfied with quality of care: 82 percent.
• Very or somewhat satisfied with cost of care: 60 percent.
• Very or somewhat satisfied with cost of prescription drugs: 57 percent.

A majority of voters in the poll — 59 percent — said they remain "very concerned" or "somewhat" concerned that their health insurance will not cover them in the case of a major, unexpected illness.

"Obamacare is not a 'disaster,' suggests a vast majority of Americans, who want hands off the Affordable Care Act until a sufficient alternative is in place," Quinnipiac's Tim Malloy said.

"Selective changes to the current program is far more palatable to Americans than the wholesale dismantling of Obamacare," Malloy said.

The poll was conducted from Jan. 20 to Jan. 25 among 1,190 voters across the U.S., with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
