The same day Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul announced his presidential primary bid, he was already hinting at a fight he plans to bring against Hillary Clinton and a culture of dishonesty that he says has pervaded her public life,
Politico reported.
Paul was blunt in his assessment of the former secretary of state, calling out her "hypocrisy" over her email scandal and also hinting at new information brewing related to donations to her family's foundation, Politico said.
"I think you should obey the law and I think nobody should be above the law. And I think, clearly, Hillary Clinton, by all appearances, seemed to be evading the law. … [T]he whole idea that she evaded the federal law … is something that's going to trouble a lot of American voters," Paul said in sit-down interview with Politico after his candidacy announcement speech Tuesday in Louisville.
"[Y]ou combine that with the shenanigans that have been going on at the Clinton Foundation," Paul continued. "We see this trail of money that's going roundabout from government to foundations to Bill Clinton to shareholders of big companies that had to be approved by Hillary Clinton when she was secretary of state."
Paul's immediate focus on Clinton was also
reported by The Hill, which cited an interview he did prior to his speech with Fox News' Sean Hannity, where he also raised the issue of a new scandal over the foundation.
"She wants to be a champion for women's rights, and yet she takes money from countries that are some of the worst abusers," Paul told Hannity, according to The Hill.
"She was in charge of approving business deals as secretary of state … for anything that relates to our security," Paul said. "There's going to be something coming out in the next few weeks of companies she approved deals for … [that gave] significant amounts, over $100 million, being given to her foundation."
Hannity also asked Paul about Clinton's role in the
Benghazi attacks, which continued to drive a congressional investigation.
"Do you think Clinton lied about Benghazi? asked Hannity. "I think the question is at 3 a.m., why didn't she pick up the phone?" Paul responded.
