The Florida congresswoman at the center of a controversy this week hit back at the White House Friday by saying it's filled with racists.
Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., has feuded with White House chief of staff John Kelly and even President Donald Trump in recent days over her insistence that Trump was insensitive to a gold star wife on a phone call. Kelly called her an "empty barrel" on Thursday.
"The White House itself is full of white supremacists," Wilson told The New York Times.
Earlier, Wilson said Kelly's use of the term "empty barrel" was racist in nature.
Kelly accused Wilson of bragging about securing funding for an FBI building in Florida two years ago during its official opening. Video of her speech posted Friday morning showed she talked about linking up with lawmakers on Capitol Hill and former President Barack Obama to spearhead legislation that named the building after two slain FBI agents.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Friday Wilson talked about getting $20 million for the building at events that day.
"They are making themselves look like fools. They have no credibility," Wilson told the Times. "They are trying to assassinate my character, and they are assassinating their own because everything they say is coming out and shown to be a lie."
