Borrowing a line from President Obama, 2008 GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin
issued a stark warning to the incoming Republican majorities in the House and Senate. The American people "were not necessarily voting FOR any political party," she wrote on her Facebook page Tuesday night. The public, was really "voting AGAINST the continued dysfunction and corruption in D.C."
— not supporting the Republicans, she added.
To prevent the GOP from getting "mauled" in 2016 as the Democrats were on Tuesday, Republicans need to learn "the lesson from the last time the Republicans held the Senate majority" between 2003 and 2007, Palin wrote.

During that period (the last time the GOP controlled both houses of Congress), elected
Republicans frequently came under fire for overspending, criticism which helped pave the way for the Democratic Party’s takeover of the House and Senate in the November 2006 midterms.
In Tuesday’s Facebook posting, the former Alaska governor cautioned "establishment types" to remember with regard to the victory in this year’s midterms that "you didn’t build this."

The real authors of the victory were "the rank and file commonsense conservative grassroots," she wrote.
Palin’s use of the phrase "you didn’t build this" appears to be a play on comments made by President Barack Obama during a July 2012 campaign stop in Roanoke, Va., where he said that "if you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that." At the time, Obama was arguing that tax cuts enacted during the Bush administration should only be extended for families earning less than $250,000 annually. In arguing that the rich should pay higher taxes to reduce the federal deficit, the president was attempting to show that private-sector activity could not flourish without massive government intervention in building "infrastructure" and other functions.
