Donald Trump is "absolutely" qualified for the presidency, House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price said Monday, and "there's no doubt about that at this point."
"If you want change, if you want government to actually work for the people, if you want the economy to get rolling, if you want to make certain that the government isn't running your healthcare, if you want the government out of our energy policy for your backyard then you want Donald Trump," the Georgia Republican lawmaker told MSNBC's
"Morning Joe" program.
He insisted that Hillary Clinton would result in another four years of President Barack Obama's administration, telling the program that "if you want to codify into law all of the crazy rules and regulations that have been put in place by her appointments to the Supreme Court, then vote for Hillary Clinton."
Further, said Price, Trump understands how to move the country in a better direction, "and I have confidence that he would bring around him people that are actually able to get it done, as opposed to this incredible path that we're on right now where the economy is not growing, jobs aren't being created and folks are being told exactly what kind of health coverage they have to buy, not the one that they want."
Meanwhile, Trump over the weekend narrowed the focus of his call for a temporary
Muslim ban, saying in an interview that he would not characterize his immigration policies as including "mass deportations," and that rather than a blanket ban on Muslims coming to the U.S. he'd focus on those from countries with links to terrorists, and Price said his stance is what the American people "are screaming for us to do."
He also said that when it comes to potential running mates for Trump, he's not sure former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is the right choice.
"Newt is incredibly talented and extremely bright and absolutely politically adept," said Price, "[But] I believe the picture of the party is better served by another individual. "
