Donald Trump had dinner Saturday with conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch at his golf course in Scotland before flying back to the United States.
Murdoch, executive chairman of News Corporation, and his wife, Jerry Hall, joined Trump for the meal at the MacLeod House, a restored 15th century mansion on the grounds of the Trump International Golf Links-Scotland,
The Daily Mail reports.
Included in the party were Steven Mnuchin, the Trump campaign's national finance chairman; press secretary Hope Hicks; one of his eight grandchildren; daughter-in-law Vanessa Trump; and his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
Murdoch, whose holdings include Fox News and The Wall Street Journal, has
warmed to Trump's Republican presidential candidacy in recent months.
He initially opposed Trump — even reportedly told Fox anchor Megyn Kelly to badger the developer in the first GOP debate in Cleveland last year — and
attended a $2,700-a-plate fundraiser for Democrat Hillary Clinton in London in February.
But Murdoch began to come
around to Trump in March, initially praising him for "reaching out" to Republican insiders in his speech after winning the Super Tuesday primaries.
Trump made sure reporters on his Scotland visit knew that he would be dining with Murdoch, the Daily Mail reports.
"I have Rupert Murdoch coming for dinner tonight," said before turning to Hicks.
"Did you mention that, Hope?" he asked. "Spread it!"
