Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer praised the three Republicans who broke with their party to reject the GOP healthcare bill and slammed President Donald Trump Friday.
Schumer told reporters at a news conference Friday, "I have not seen a senator who speaks truth to power as strongly, as well and as frequently as John McCain."
Schumer also praised Maine's Susan Collins and Alaska's Lisa Murkowski as tough women.
His comments came just hours after the three Republicans joined all 46 Senate Democrats and 2 Independents in voting against the so-called "skinny repeal" bill, a loss that dealt a severe blow to President Donald Trump's agenda and GOP's years-long effort to repeal and replace Obamacare.
He also accused Trump of trying to "sabotage" Obamacare and slammed him for bragging about the political connotations if the health system collapses.
"His tweet last night said we are going to let the system collapse. We are going to hurt innocent people because we are angry, we lost politically," Schumer said. "That is not what a president does. I hope our Senate colleagues and our House colleague on his side of the aisle will turn a deaf ear on that."
