Musician Bruce Springsteen said in a new interview he is scared of what will happen under President-elect Donald Trump when he takes office this month.

"Yeah, of course," Springsteen told host Marc Maron on the WTF podcast (Note: Link contains some offensive language). "How could you not be?

"I've felt disgust before, but never the kind of fear that you feel now. It's as simple as the fear of, is someone simply competent enough to do this particular job? Do they simply have the pure competence to be put in the position of such responsibility?"

The discussion about Trump begins about one hour into the interview.

In September, the New Jersey rocker called Trump a "moron" and pledged his support of Democrat Hillary Clinton, who Trump defeated in the Nov. 8 election.

During the WTF podcast, Springsteen had a more somber tone — and he noted that it was clear how Trump won the presidency.

"I understand how he got elected," he said. "I think if you were effected deeply by the industrialization, globalization, and the technological advances, and you have been left behind, and somebody comes along and tells you, 'I'm gonna bring all the jobs back. Don't worry about it. They're all coming back.'

"You're concerned about America changing, the browning of America, 'I'm gonna build a wall.' You're worried about ISIS, 'I've got a secret plan to defeat ISIS. Don't worry about it.' You're worried about terrorism in the United States, 'I'm gonna register the Muslims and we're gonna ban …'

"These are all very simplistic, but very powerful and simple ideas. They're lies, they can't occur."

Springsteen said he's "frightened" of things like "bigotry, racism, and intolerance" entering society under Trump.

"But hey, America is still America," he said. "I believe in its ideals and I'm going to do my best to play my very, very small part in maintaining those things."
