Christie: GOP Needs To Engage with Minority Voters

By    |   Sunday, 10 November 2013 12:56 PM EST

Republicans should heed the lesson of last week's New Jersey gubernatorial election and learn from it, Gov. Chris Christie said Sunday.

"I think what the election showed was that if you want to attract a majority of the Hispanic vote, if you want to nearly triple your African-American voters who are Republican, what you need to do is show up," Christie said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"I think the results of the election show that that's the kind of engagement that we need as Republicans all across the country, to listen and to show up in places where we haven’t gotten a great amount of votes before."

When asked by host David Gregory about 2016, and whether Christie would run for president as an "establishment" Republican, the governor answered, "I don't get into these labels. That's the Washington, D.C., game and what all those men and women down there play. Look at my record. Judge me by my record. That, I'm very, very comfortable with.

On the topic of Obamacare, Christie said he never did and never will support it and won't institute healthcare exchanges in his state.

"It's a failed policy," he said. "We all know that, and the fact is that the president needs to own up to it and tell folks the truth."
