Quinnipiac Poll: Clinton Leading Trump by 12 Points in New York

Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump by 12 points among voters in New York, with the results driven by a 3-1 lead among New York City voters, a new Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday shows.

While but both presidential candidates continue to have negative favorability ratings, according to 

In the poll, conducted from July 13-17 of 1,104 New York state voters and carrying a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points:
  • Clinton, 47 percent;
  • Trump, 35 percent;
  • Clinton favorability, 41-52 percent;
  • Trump favorability, 32-61 percent.

And in demographic breakdowns:
  • Voters ages 18-34: Clinton, 53-18 percent;
  • Ages 34-49: Clinton, 45-40 percent;
  • Ages 50-64: Clinton, 49-41 percent;
  • Ages 65 and older: 46-41 percent.
  • Men: Trump, 44-40 percent;
  • Women: Clinton, 54-28 percent.

There was a divide between voters in New York City from those in upstate New York and suburban voters:
  • New York City: Clinton, 63-20 percent;
  • Upstate: Trump, 48-36 percent;
  • Suburban voters: Trump, 40-39 percent.

Among party voters:
  • Democrats: Clinton, 82-10 percent;
  • Republicans: Trump, 76-9 percent;
  • Independents: 41-35 percent.

And with third party candidates included, Clinton remained ahead of Trump:
  • Clinton: 45 percent;
  • Trump: 33 percent;
  • Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson: 6 percent;
  • Green Party candidate Jill Stein, 4 percent.

New York voters, by a 43 percent to 21 percent, also also liked Trump's selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as running mate, but 59 percent still did not know enough about pence to voice an opinion about him.
