Dozens of families whose loved ones were killed, raped or maimed by illegal immigrants are appealing to Republican voters to reject Sen. Marco Rubio as the 2016 Republican presidential nominee.
The Washington Examiner obtained a letter written by The Remembrance Project, a group formed in 2009 to honor those murder victims, and addressed to "All GOP Voters."
"We write to you today as American citizens … who have lost our children, siblings, parents and other close family members to senseless illegal alien killings," the letter states.
"Sadly, the single most egregious Congressional promoter of open borders is GOP Senator Marco Rubio. As a key member of the notorious 'immigration reform' Gang of Eight committee, Rubio's amnesty plan was hatched, not only to give mass amnesty to illegals, but was done through daily lies…."
Those lies, the letter claims, include Rubio’s boast that security, not amnesty, was the most important factor in immigration reform and that there would be no amnesty for criminals.
"Through this process, Senator Rubio steadfastly ignored our families and the warnings of law enforcement. Not once did he reach out to our families, or other families whose loved ones' were killed by the illegal aliens," the letter says.
"Each time Rubio has a chance to do something on behalf of American victims, he chooses instead to push amnesty and side with open borders and foreign interests to make life harder and more dangerous for law-abiding American families."
The letter is signed by Remembrance Project co-founder Maria Espinoza and speaks for more than 30 families.
