Hillary Clinton will win the presidency with more than 300 electoral votes, and the Senate will be tied at 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats according to Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball final projections ahead of Tuesday's vote.
Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, has long been predicting a Clinton win, but bumped his total to more than 300 electoral votes in his final prediction. Late last week he had her at 293.
A total of 270 electoral votes are needed to capture the presidency.
Here are Sabato's final predictions:
- Hillary Clinton: 322
- Donald Trump: 216
In the Senate, Sabato expects a four-seat gain by Democrats, making for a 50-50 tie. A Clinton win would give her vice president, Tim Kaine, the tie-breaking vote.
Republicans will maintain control of the House of Representatives, according to Sabato, though Democrats will gain 13 seats. The new makeup, according to the Crystal Ball:
- Republicans: 234
- Democrats: 201
Sabato sees no net change in governorships, with his predicted total:
- Republicans: 31
- Democrats: 18
- Independent: 1
Here's how Sabato's map looks:
Media organizations have been moving their electoral projection maps in Trump's direction in the closing days of the race based on polling projections. Sabato has said his methodology is different, though he has not revealed it.
