Special counsel Robert Mueller has shown "no connection" between Russia and President Donald Trump, his staff, or the White House, and he should be concentrating instead on Hillary and Bill Clinton and others, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Tuesday.
"If Mueller is going to do a thorough investigation of Russia, he has got to investigate why there was this incredible connection between the Democratic National Committee and Hillary's campaign and the fake Russian dossier," Huckabee told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program. "What he has shown so far has no connection to the president, to the White House or the White House staff."
On Monday, former campaign manager Paul Manafort and deputy Rick Gates pleaded not guilty to an extensive 12-count indictment that did not mention Trump by name, but did charge them with various charges of money laundering and defrauding the United States government. Former foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos, described by Trump and others in the campaign as a very minor player, meanwhile, pleaded guilty earlier in the month to lying to the FBI in connection with the case.
Huckabee said he expects Manafort will fight the charges, as they are "serious things," but have "nothing to do with his work on the Trump campaign. It preceded it and wasn't relevant to it."
Trump, meanwhile, shouldn't worry himself about the investigation, said Huckabee. "It's not touching him. If this is all they've got, then he needs to go about getting this tax plan done, put people back to work, have a great trip to Asia which I think he will do."
Trump has much to "crow about," Huckabee added, including accomplishments, jobs, and GDP growth. "There is a lot to celebrate in this White House and that's what he should do."
