Neil Gorsuch, President Donald Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court, was a fly-fishing buddy of the late Justice Antonin Scalia — the man he would replace on the high court, CNN reported.
The two went on a fly-fishing trip in Colorado, which was captured in a photo of the smiling jurists with their arms around one another.
"Fond memories of a day on the Colorado, with warm regards," Scalia wrote on the photo.
Gorsuch, a longtime admirer of Scalia, was on a ski trip last February when he learned of Scalia's death.
"I immediately lost what breath I had left, and I am not embarrassed to admit that I couldn't see the rest of the way down the mountain for the tears," he recalled.
Trump warmly praised Scalia in comments delivered at the White House while introducing Gorsuch.
CNN noted the comments were directed, in part, to Maureen Scalia, the justice's widow, who was sitting in the front row.
