President Donald Trump and his supporters are victims of "the most ruthless attack . . . in American history," the National Rifle Association claims in a video released Friday.
In the video, narrator Dana Loesch, an NRA spokesperson and radio host, bitterly charges that Trump critics are trying to delegitimize Trump's presidency.
"We are witnesses to the most ruthless attack on a president and the people who voted for him, and the free system that allowed it to happen, in American history," she says.
Scenes of anti-Trump protesters and an image of Congress flash on screen as Loesch continues.
"From the highest levels of government, to their media, universities and billionaires, their hateful defiance of his legitimacy is an insult to each of us," she said. "But the ultimate insult is that they think we're so stupid that we'll let them get away with it."
The critics, she charges, are trying to "drive their daggers" through the heart of America's future — and accompanying the words are images of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem.
"Their fate will be failure and they will perish in the political flames of their own fires," she says of critics.
The targets were quick to respond via Twitter, blasting the video message as "fascist," ripping its tone and form — and mocking it.
The video is the latest provocative post from the NRA, coming in the wake of an August post that warned the New York Times and "elites" that "we're coming for you."
"We're going to laser-focus on your so-called 'honest pursuit of truth.' In short, we're coming for you," she said in the August video. "Consider this a shot across your proverbial bow."
