Obama Campaign Launches Attack Ad Based on ‘Etch A Sketch’ Remark

Democrats won’t let go of comments made by Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom in March that his campaign would reset like an Etch A Sketch after the primary battles.

President Barack Obama’s campaign has launched a video ad attempting to link Romney to the remarks. Fehrnstrom said, “I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes: it’s almost like an Etch A Sketch.”



After beginning with those comments, the ad takes a scattershot approach to attack Romney. First, it goes after his tenure at Bain Capital, the private equity firm he co-founded.

“When Mitt Romney was CEO of Bain Capital, Bain invested in a series of companies that expanded overseas, sometimes at the expense of American workers,” the ad says.

Then it goes after Romney’s tenure as governor of Massachusetts. “What he did do was add $750 million in fees, which is just another way the government collects money like taxes,” the ad states.

Next it attacks Romney’s economic credentials. The ad shows his presidential rival Rick Santorum during the primaries saying, “If Mitt Romney is an economic heavyweight we’re in trouble, because he was 47th out of 50 in job creation when he was governor.”

Finally the ad criticizes Romney’s investments overseas, his tax payments, and his tax plan that the ad claims favors the rich over the poor and middle class.

It seems like the Obama camp is throwing all it darts in the air, hoping something will hit the board.
