The FBI will turn over documents related to the dossier assembled on President Donald Trump to congressional investigators, according to House Speaker Paul Ryan.

On Wednesday, Ryan accused the agency of "stonewalling" and "foot-dragging" on responding to requests from the House Select Committee on Intelligence for documents that provide information on how the document was used by law enforcement to investigate some of Trump's associates during the campaign.

"The point of these investigations is to find the truth and to make sure if laws were violated or mistakes were made, they're not made again. And transparency is what gets you that," Ryan told reporters at his weekly briefing to the press, according to The Wall Street Journal.

"The FBI got in touch with us yesterday afternoon. They have informed us that they will comply with our document requests, and that they will provide the documents that Congress has been asking for by next week. And we expect the FBI to honor that commitment."

According to the speaker, officials from the Justice Department got in touch with him just hours after news of his comments emerged.

"We've had these document requests with the administration, with the FBI in particular, for a long time and they've been stonewalling," Ryan said in an interview with Reuters.

He also said that the DoJ and FBI must comply with the request, "and they need to do it immediately."
