Ending the U.S. involvement in the nuclear deal with Iran is an opportunity for President Donald Trump and Congress to better address the situation with Iran, according to Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y.
"We have no assurances that the Iranians are complying, the military has said they cannot fully find out what Iran is doing and not doing ... this could go back into Congress and we could begin new negotiations and talk about different sanctions and try to ... clean this up," King said Wednesday on Fox News' "Outnumbered."
"There is no doubt in my mind, they are assembling parts that could lead to nuclear weapons," King added about the Iranians, who agreed to a deal for relief from international sanctions if they complied with limitations to their nuclear operations.
If the deal is decertified, Congress will have 60 days to work on the deal.
The White House and Congress must coordinate their approach on Iran, King said. "We are the leader of the free world ... it's important that any action we do take, that we speak with one voice."
The U.S. also must unite with its allies, King noted. "Europe needs us to some extent. We may need them, but they need us more ... We have to get unified. We have to all be saying the same thing."
King offered praise for Rep. Ed Royce, calling Royce a "phenomenal" chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Royce said that the U.S. should "enforce the hell" out of the deal.
