Rasmussen: Mandel Ties Incumbent Brown in Ohio Race

By    |   Thursday, 16 August 2012 12:46 PM EDT

Republican Josh Mandel has pulled into a tie with incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown in the hotly contested Senate race in Ohio, a new Rasmussen Reports poll reveals.

State Treasurer Mandel received 44 percent of the vote in the Rasmussen survey to tie Brown, who was elected in 2006.

Almost all previous polls had Mandel trailing Brown. A Rasmussen poll completed on July 18 had Sen. Brown ahead, 46 percent to 42 percent, and a Quinnipiac University poll completed on July 30 had Brown leading 51 percent to 39 percent.

In the latest Rasmussen poll, Mandel led Brown among all age groups except those 18 to 39.

National Journal’s annual rankings had Brown tied last year for the title of most liberal member of Congress.

Mandel told Newsmax: "I've traveled all over Ohio speaking with small business owners and blue-collar workers about my plan to bring new leadership to Washington that allows us to help build an environment that allows the private sector to grow and create jobs.

“I'm pleased to learn that my message is getting out to voters and that I've earned the support of so many grassroots volunteers throughout Ohio who will help bring us victory on Election Day — which is the only 'poll' that truly matters."

The former Marine told Newsmax.TV in June that if he gets to Washington, he plans to “shake that place up” and stand up to “anyone who gets in my way” in his efforts to turn the country around.
