Rove: We're not Done With Attack Ads Against Judd

By    |   Friday, 08 February 2013 11:57 AM EST

Super PAC American Crossroads will run more attack ads against potential Kentucky Senate candidate Ashley Judd after debuting one earlier this week, says Karl Rove, head of the group.

The first ad against the Democratic actress showed her as an outsider, a movie-star liberal. The spot noted she doesn’t even live in Kentucky, but rather in Tennessee.

“We are making fun of her by using her comments,” Rove told Fox News Tuesday. “She is way far out on the left wing of the Democratic Party, which is not very far out left in Kentucky.”

Judd may challenge Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is up for re-election next year. She hasn’t set a timetable for making her mind up on the race.

Rove is eager to avoid a repeat of comedian Al Franken’s election to the Senate in 2008.

“We don’t want to have happen in Kentucky what happened in Minnesota where Al Franken knew, ‘I need to have a short campaign. I don’t want people to pay a lot of attention to me, I don’t want them to know a lot about me except I’m a celebrity and a nice guy,’” he said.

“She doesn’t want a long campaign because this is just the opening story and ad. She’s not going to be able to wait until the screenwriters from California and producers make her look good and prepare the ads and give her lots of lines to memorize so that she can handle these things. We’re going to make her start saying where she’s coming from.”
