Georgia Republican Rep. Tom Price is being considered for Health and Human Services secretary in the Trump administration, Politico reports.
"Tom Price has been loyal to Donald Trump from the outset and his knowledge of healthcare is second to none," the website quoted a Republican source on Capitol Hill. "Him being in contention for HHS secretary makes perfect sense."
Price is chairman of the House Budget Committee, and also is an orthopedic surgeon. He also was among members of his party who introduced an alternative to the Affordable Care Act, known popularly as Obamacare, when healthcare reform was being discussed by Democrats in 2009.
Another name reportedly being discussed is former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, according to Politico.
Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson's name has been discussed for the position and for surgeon general, but he also has been suggested as education secretary. But Carson told The Washington Post he prefers to work with Trump in an outside advisory capacity rather than accepting a job inside the administration.
Whoever gets the job will have a major role in implementing Trump's promise to repeal and replace Obamacare.
