The Trump Foundation reportedly paid $10,000 last year to controversial conservative activist James O'Keefe of Project Veritas, whose recent undercover videos show a former operative linked to the Democratic National Committee discussing planting protesters to incite violence at Donald Trump rallies.
The May 2015 payment was first reported by Think Progress, and was listed in a compilation of donations the Trump Foundation gave to the Washington Post, NBC News reports.
Trump referred to the video on Wednesday night at the last debate between he and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
"I was wondering what happened with my rally in Chicago and other rallies where we had such violence," he said, NBC News reported. "She's the one and [President Barack] Obama that caused the violence."
O'Keefe's most high-profile video was an expose on the now-defunct community organizing group ACORN in 2009 that supposedly showed employees agreeing to help him smuggle underage prostitutes into the country. The employees later had actually called the police and O'Keefe eventually paid $100,000 in a settlement after being sued, Think Progress reports.
