Fantasy Trumps Reality With Obamacare

What does a big-government leftist do when presented with the choice between believing his fantasy and acknowledging reality? Why, he clings ever tighter to the fantasy.

The glowing fantasy that is Obamacare promised a way for America to insure the uninsured, cover the pre-existing, and make health insurance affordable for all. It didn’t matter that a large portion of the uninsured should not have been here in the first place, since they were illegal.

And it didn’t matter that most of the rest of the uninsured were without coverage by choice. Many because they were young and invulnerable or because they put a higher priority on paying for cellphones and tattoos than they did on paying for insurance.

Today’s reality is this: The uninsured are still uninsured and as a result of the passage of Obamacare many of the formerly insured are now forced to join the uninsured.

Responsible Americans who already had coverage because they bought it as individuals — always more expensive than coverage provided by employers — are now getting hammered. Florida Blue is canceling 80 percent of the individual policies sold in the state. In Philadelphia, Independence Blue Cross will jettison 45 percent of its policyholders.

And here in California, Kaiser Permanente has axed about half of its individual market customers.

But fantasy still trumps reality for Obamacare acolytes. They claim the replacement policies the newly uninsured may buy on the dreaded government healthcare exchanges “will offer consumers better coverage, in some cases, for comparable cost — especially after the inclusion of federal subsidies for those who qualify.”

I’ve got news for the left. It's not "comparable" if it takes two to cover the bill, where formerly one could pay with no problem.

It's like saying you put yourself through college, except that daddy footed 50 percent of the bill. The specific person referred to in the story pays less because the multitude of faceless taxpayers cover the cost increases caused by Obamacare.

There is no money tree. There is no free lunch. Eventually the Chinese are going to stop loaning money to a country that is incapable of fiscal discipline.

The new Obamacare policies cover 10 “essential” benefits as determined by government bureaucrats. Three of which are prescription drugs, mental health treatment, and maternity care. But no one can explain why maternity care is “essential” to a conservative male who is by definition sane and unlikely to become pregnant.

In a free, competitive healthcare market the consumer gets what he pays for. When Obamacare enters the picture the consumer pays for what he doesn’t want to get.
